Looking Ahead

Hi everyone :)

I just got the word-- I will be flying out of GR on September 18th!!  I have so much to do before then--please pray for diligence and patience as I prepare for this new step in my life.

So this is my new blog dedicated to everything Costa Rica!  I plan to post pictures, updates, prayer requests, and more as frequently as I can.  Please visit often to keep up with what's going on in Central America.

For starters, I just want to say that as a recent graduate of Grand Valley State University, I feel that having a BA in Anthropology and a minor is Spanish has equipped me academically for service in Costa Rica.  My faith and my network of support here at home equips me for the rest-- "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."  II Timothy 3:16-17.

I'd like to clue you all in to who I'm going to be staying with and where:

I will be staying with Jim and Ruth Padilla-DeBorst (http://www.churchoftheservantcrc.org/ministries/missionary-page/ruth-jim-padilla-deborst), missionaries, at their home called Casa Adobe.  I will live there with their family, another intern/volunteer Rachel, and several families seeking temporary refuge.  Casa Adobe is located in the beautiful town of Santa Rosa, Heredia in Costa Rica right outside of the capital city of San José.  To check it out, here's a link: http://casaadobe.org/Contact-Us.php

I will be assisting in their ministry through community outreach, mentoring and tutoring of local students, promoting sustainable living opportunities, and working with women to help improve their lives in the community, etc.  May the Lord bless me and my work, as well as the Padilla-DeBorst family, as we help to build up the church and kingdom of God in Costa Rica.

Stay tuned!
